Karin Hess is the principal at Thatcher Brook Primary School, Waterbury, Vermont. She is completing her doctorate in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Vermont. Karen's dissertation is focused on the challenges of implementing standards-based performance assessment in Vermont schools. Prior to becoming a principal, Karin was a curriculum coordinator for a Vermont district and the professional development specialist for the Vermont Institute for Science, Mathematics and Technology.

Karen has also served as an adjunct instructor at Vermont's St. Michael's College and the University of Vermont, and the College of New Rochelle, NY. Karen has extensive experience leading professional development programs in performance assessment, particularly focused on K-8 science.
